Below is a quick guide of what courses you will need to obtain your California Guard Card:
REQUIREMENTS
- Be at least 18 Years of age
- Undergo a criminal history background clearance by the FBI & Dept. of Justice
- Possess Current Picture Identification
- Possess a Social Security Card
- Possess Right to work in the USA
- Have no prohibiting misdemeanors/ felonies
Powers to Arrest Modules ABC Newly licensed Security Guards must obtain 40 hours of BSIS required training: 1. 8 Hours for initial application process 2. 16 Hours within 30 days of issuance 3. 16 Hours within 6 months of issuance When you successfully complete the course you will receive certificates of completion which satisfy the requirements of AB2880. Module A (8 Hours: Completing these courses will allow you to get your initial guard card) - Powers to Arrest: 4 Hours (Mandatory for Module A)
- Weapons of Mass Destruction: 4 Hours (Mandatory for Module A)
Module B (16 Hours: Must be completed within 30 days once you complete Module A) - Observation & Documentation: 4 Hours (Mandatory for Module B)
- Communication & Its Significance: 4 Hours (Mandatory for Module B)
- Public Relations: 4 Hours (Mandatory for Module B)
- Liability & Legal Aspects: 4 Hours (Mandatory for Module B)
Module C (16 Hours Mandatory) - You can choose from the following list of courses. - Terrorism and Racial Profiling: 4 Hours (Elective for Module C)
- Introduction to Executive Protection: 4 Hours (Elective for Module C)
- Officer Safety: 4 Hours (Elective for Module C)
- Loss Prevention 101: 4 Hours (Elective for Module C)
